Since its formation in 1941, the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists (NCANA) has advocated for safe and cost-effective anesthesia care that is available to all. NCANA promotes and advances the nurse anesthesia profession and the work of its 2,500+ Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) members through education, professionalism, integrity and leadership.

Recipient of the AANA Excellence in State Government Relations Advocacy Award
During the 2017 American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Mid-Year Assembly in Washington, D.C., NCANA was recognized as the recipient of the AANA Excellence in State Government Relations Advocacy Award for its series of articles featuring CRNAs who served their country in the military and are now serving patients in our communities. House Bill 88/State Bill 73 (HB88/SB73), known as the Modernize Nursing Practice Act, will help patients continue to receive access to high-quality, affordable anesthesia care across North Carolina. The anesthesia care section of the bill clearly defines nurse anesthesia activities that have been in the North Carolina Administrative Code for decades.

A survey commissioned by NCANA found the majority of voters in our state support HB88. After polling 500 likely voters, the survey found 73 percent of respondents supported HB88/SB73 when it was described to them as increasing safe and affordable health care.
